Omakase is a Japanese phrase that means “I leave it up to you” and is commonly used when dining at Japanese restaurants where the customer leaves it up to the chef to select and serve full course menu by seasonal specialties. While the design is taking Omakase as the main concept, it also distributes it to its service and operation procedure. It has 3 Omakase Rooms, 4 VIP Rooms, a Lounge Bar, and a Rooftop VVIP Room, making this quite an exclusive restaurant as it has less communal space/seating. For it will be exclusive as they have several VIP Rooms, we made the layouts to be more secluded by making it not visually informative, so the customer needs to be “guided” and “served” as they enter the building. Even though these rooms are visually opaque from the outside, we put a line of circulation that connects pedestrians from both ends at the gr ound floor, so this exclusivity doesn’t get misunderstood to be arrogant and still has a welcoming feeling towards pedestrians and people who are interested in getting in. Inside, we put a Void that vertically connects all floors, for visual, light, and ai r access, so this thin building still feels alive and not so cramped, and makes the airflow better to counter the sultry weather in Jakarta.
